The root causes of cardiometabolic risk (CMR), also known as metabolic syndrome insulin resistance syndrome, is inadequate physical activity, a diet with low intake of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and high in saturated fat, as well as possible genetic factors. July 2009
In January 2008, America’s Health Insurance Plans, in collaboration with HealthPartners Research Foundation, conducted a survey to assess health plans efforts to provide services to control cardiometabolic risk (CMR), a condition associated with adverse health outcome and increased cost of care. Health plans offer members with CMR a variety of interventions related to tobacco use, obesity/overweight, nutrition and physical activity.
