AHIP Statement on Status of Health Care Reform Process
Washington, D.C. – Karen Ignagni, President and CEO of America’s Health Insurance Plans, issued the following statement today on the status of the health care reform process:
“Now is the time for bipartisan health care reform that makes care more affordable, improves quality, and covers all Americans. Our community has proposed guaranteed coverage for pre-existing conditions, discontinuing rating based on a person’s health status or gender, and a personal coverage requirement to get everyone into the system. We have proposed far-reaching administrative reforms to slash paperwork, reduce medical errors, and ensure doctors and hospitals can focus on patient care.
“A government-run plan is a roadblock to reform. Policymakers and stakeholders should focus on the unprecedented consensus that exists on bringing everyone into the system, guaranteeing coverage for pre-existing conditions, providing a helping hand for working families, strengthening the health care safety net, and bending the health care cost curve.
“Health plans will continue to advance comprehensive, bipartisan reform that preserves employer-based coverage and ensures those who like their current coverage can keep it.”
