In addition, participants will receive timely insight from the results of a newly launched international study on the evolving role of successful CIOs as part of a company’s sustainable executive suite.
About the presenters:
Mike Malec, Vice President, Plan Operations, NASCO
A recent addition to NASCO, Mike is responsible for improving NASCO’s performance and lowering cost as the leader of performance support, knowledge management and learning organization capabilities.Mike is uniquely qualified to lead NASCO’s Plan Operations unit, having worked with NASCO on various Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) projects since 2001. While supporting BCBSM, Mike led the benefit coding and new group implementation areas; implemented the first iteration of InterActSM messages for HCBO® and an Interactive Voice Response system for BCBSM national membership; led the effort for Operation First Pass Rate improvement; and managed program-wide testing on the Michigan Operating System conversion project.
Prior to focusing his BCBSM efforts on NASCO, Mike also held various consulting engagements at the Plan focused on the local and HMO platforms. In addition, Mike also consulted at CIGNA, Aetna, Kaiser Permanente, Mutual of Omaha and many others in various information technology and operational improvement engagements.Barry Mason, Vice President, Global Health Plans, IBM
Barry Mason has been with IBM for 28 years and currently serves as Vice President for the health plan segment of IBM’s Healthcare and Life Sciences industry where he leads the team developing business solutions and partnerships to serve IBM’s health plan clients. He also oversees IBM’s solution portfolio for the healthcare industry. Barry has deep expertise in the health plan segment and brings to his view of healthcare a rich background from both the retail and banking industries. He is also IBM’s Senior Location Executive for the Twin Cities.
Barry has held multiple executive positions where he was responsible for driving IBM business transformational solutions and leading IBM’s strategic relationship development, including Managing Director over top clients in retail and healthcare; Principal, IBM Business Consulting focusing on data analytics and customer relationship management; and Project Executive on complex, cross-organizational opportunities.
Barry has been active in many community organizations, including the Board of Governors at The Children’s Theatre Company and Board of Directors for the Minneapolis Downtown Council. He currently serves on the Builder’s Circle for Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity; Bethlehem Lutheran Church Foundation; and as a coach and volunteer in community athletics.
Barbara A. Archbold, Partner, Healthcare Solutions, IBM Global Business Services
Barbara A. Archbold is a Healthcare Executive with IBM's Global Business Services practice specializing in business transformation and business and information strategies in the healthcare industry. She is our national healthcare solution leader and sets the direction for IBM services delivered to the market as well as managing our healthcare services sales.
Barbara has led our health plan practice as well as been the practice leader for our Healthcare Strategy and Change practice. She served as the Integration Executive for the Healthlink acquisition, a 600 person provider clinical and business implementation services company, acquired in June 2005.
Barbara has over 25 years experience with strategy development and IT planning. Barbara leads projects for healthcare businesses undergoing significant changes by applying her expertise in process redesign, management information systems and strategy development to meet today's business challenges. Barbara frequently facilitates executive planning sessions focused on business strategy, business transformation and change management initiatives with the associated call to action.
Barbara has been recognized with major awards for creative but practical solutions to difficult business problems. She is frequently asked to speak on the topic of Consumer driven healthcare, collaborating across the healthcare ecosystem and topics that link technology and process in today’s healthcare environment. She is one of the co-authors of our Healthcare 2015 and US Health plans: New roles, new competencies. Barbara is also the Past President Elect of the North Carolina Healthcare Information and Communications Alliance (NCHICA), whose mission is to improve healthcare delivery through technology.
