There is no doubt, 2019 was a remarkable year for our industry. With 2020 around the corner, it’s important to reflect on the work we’ve done and milestones we’ve reached together. Gathered here are some of the policy and advocacy efforts we’re proud of.
In 2019, health care issues remained on top of the to-do list for the White House and lawmakers. Congress continued to tackle important issues that impact all Americans, such as lowering the price of prescription drugs and addressing the social and economic factors that impact health.
AHIP launched The Next Big Thing in Health, a podcast where we explore top trends and new solutions to help patients and improve care. In each episode, AHIP is joined by a health care leader who shines a light on the big thing they want to see America focus on for health care improvement.
Orphan drugs treat rare medical conditions afflicting fewer than 200,000 Americans. Thanks to landmark legislation passed in the 1980s, millions of Americans with rare diseases have hope for cures. Unfortunately, what was envisioned as a protection for patients has become a major profit-driver for Big Pharma.
