WASHINGTON, D.C. –  Matt Eyles, president and CEO of America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), issued the following statement following the passage of H.R. 6311, which proposes a two-year suspension of the health insurance tax (HIT) and increased flexibility for health savings accounts (HSA), and H.R. 6199, which includes several provisions to further modernize HSAs:

“Americans have been calling for more affordable coverage and care. We applaud the House for passing these important bipartisan proposals. They will make health care more affordable by suspending taxes that push up premiums and modernizing HSAs so pre-tax dollars can be more effectively used to meet the health care needs of American families.

“For several years, suspension of the health insurance tax has received bipartisan support. Providing another temporary reprieve, as work continues to fully repeal this harmful tax, will help reduce premiums for families, small business owners, seniors, and states.

“Additional solutions to strengthen Health Savings Accounts will provide Americans with more choices, more control and better flexibility to invest their health care dollars in ways that best fit their personal needs.

“We thank the House for acting to improve health care affordability for every American, and we will continue to work with Congress to move these much-needed proposals through Congress and to the President’s desk.”
