On June 18, 2019, AHIP submitted a statement for the official record of a Senate HELP Committee hearing on draft legislation, the “Lower Health Care Costs Act.” Our statement thanks Chairman Lamar Alexander (R-TN) and Ranking Member Patty Murray (D-WA) for their leadership in seeking a consensus on bipartisan solutions that would make health care more affordable and enhance competition in the U.S. health care system.
We highlight our support for key provisions of their draft legislation and offer recommendations for additional steps that would provide relief to the American people from rising health care costs. Key priorities addressed in our statement include protecting patients from surprise medical bills, reducing the price of prescription drugs, and improving transparency to help consumers make informed decisions about their coverage and care.
