AHIP Submits Statement To E&C On New Legislative Proposals

Today, AHIP submitted a statement for the House Energy & Commerce subcommittee markup of legislative proposals that would help to address disparities in access to maternal health care and remove barriers to accessing generic drugs.
- Women deserve to get the safe, effective care they need before, during, and after pregnancy, and health insurance coverage is essential to that access. That’s why AHIP supports H.R. 4996, “Helping Medicaid Offer Maternity Services (MOMS) Act of 2019”,which will provide states with the new flexibility to extend Medicaid or CHIP eligibility for one year postpartum.
- Drug prices are out of control, and Americans should not have to choose between paying their bills and getting the prescription drugs they need. That’s why AHIP supports H.R. 2387, The “Stop the Overuse of Petitions and Get Affordable Medicines to Enter Soon (STOP GAMES) Act of 2019”, and we believe it is important to reform the citizen petition process so that it does not unfairly block access to generic drugs.
- Additionally, AHIP supports other policies being considered to improve maternal health outcomes and address disparities in care, such as H.R. 4995, the “Maternal Health Quality Improvement Act of 2019,” and the H.R. 2339, the “Reversing the Youth Tobacco Epidemic Act of 2019.”
