WASHINGTON, D.C. – America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) issued the following statement in response to a bipartisan bill introduced by Sens. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) and Patty Murray (D-Wash.) to improve stability and state flexibility in the individual market for Americans who purchase their own health care coverage:

Millions of Americans depend on the individual market for their health care coverage. This bill will provide American consumers with a more stable insurance market, states with more flexibility to meet the needs of their citizens, and more choice and more affordable care. AHIP supports and is encouraged by this bipartisan legislation, and we thank Senators Alexander and Murray for their continued commitment to developing solutions that will help ensure the American people have a pathway to more affordable coverage and health care.

AHIP supports the goal of ensuring that consumers receive the benefit of continuous funding for cost-sharing reduction (CSR) assistance, which makes it more affordable for low- and middle-income Americans to see their doctor or fill their prescriptions. Plans would work with states to operationalize any changes required to meet this goal.

AHIP and its members will continue to work with the Congress, Administration and state officials to ensure access to affordable coverage and care that improves the health and financial security of all Americans.”
