WASHINGTON, D.C. – Matt Eyles, president and CEO of America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), issued this statement following the release of a set of legislative proposals to lower health care costs by the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP):
“Every American deserves affordable coverage choices that allow them to get the care they need. We thank Chairman Alexander, Ranking Member Murray, and all members of the Senate HELP Committee for their continued commitment to working together on bipartisan solutions that improve health care affordability and access for everyone.
“We agree with and support many of the principles outlined by the HELP Committee. Increasing competition and putting an end to Big Pharma’s gaming of the system will lower out-of-control drug prices for patients and consumers. We agree patients should be protected from surprise medical bills, and that policy solutions to this problem should ensure premiums and out-of-pocket costs do not go up for patients and consumers.
“We support transparency that allows consumers and patients to get information that is clear, helps them make informed decisions about their care, and leads to lower costs for them. We support public health and quality initiatives that help people get healthier faster and stay healthier longer. We agree that the privacy of patients and consumers should be protected, and their health care information secure from bad actors.
“We look forward to reviewing more detail about these proposals, and we will continue to work with the Committee, all members of Congress, and the Administration on real solutions that improve health care affordability, choice and access for every American.”
