WASHINGTON, D.C. – March 26, 2019 – Matt Eyles, president and CEO of America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), issued the following statement on the introduction of the Protecting Pre-Existing Conditions and Making Health Care More Affordable Act of 2019:
Every American deserves affordable, comprehensive coverage choices, regardless of any pre-existing conditions, their income, or their health status. This has been – and will remain – our commitment.
Nearly 15 million hardworking Americans buy their own coverage today. They deserve a stable market that empowers them to take control of their health care decisions, choose from a wide selection of plans to find one that works best for them, and know that their coverage protects their financial security and peace of mind.
We support solutions that ensure a stable market, encourage broad participation, and help to lower health care costs for everyone – particularly for those who do not qualify for federal subsidies today. We will carefully analyze these proposals to ensure that they support affordable, comprehensive coverage, including proposals regarding short-term limited duration plans.
AHIP and its members will continue to work together with Congress and the Administration, as well as with state leaders, to improve the individual market for the people who depend on it. By working together, we can deliver lower costs, effective coverage, and better health outcomes that Americans deserve.
