A health care cost transparency tool is where consumers can go to compare cost and quality across providers, facilities and treatment options. The standard model for estimating these costs is to look at historical claims data and present average costs. This model results in often highly inaccurate cost estimates that don’t even take into account the consumer’s coverage.
A new model that utilizes real-time information and flexible data sources allows for a much more accurate estimate. Coupled with higher expectations from plans around the ability to steer consumers towards certain care paths and higher expectations from consumers to see Yelp-like reviews of providers, the future of these tools looks very different.
During the session, you will:
Learn how the old model is faulty and what they need to keep in mind as market demands are evolving and requiring a much more consumer-focused approach to estimating health care costs.
