about

While the health insurance industry has created new provider network models aimed at reducing health care costs, there has been almost no innovation in how network teams approach the network design process. Traditionally, teams have relied on static data and analytics (think: provider roster data) to select which providers to include in-network. The provider selection process is cumbersome, and network optimization is a trial and error exercise, often taking 12 to 24 months post-launch to get right.

The provider network design process is ripe for innovation. This webinar will showcase how one team at Cigna is taking a dynamic approach to provider selection and network design for the launch of several new expansion markets. The presenters will describe how they were able to dynamically map and modify geographic parameters, and add and remove PCPs, specialists, and facilities, and instantly predict real-world performance pre-launch. They will explain what goals they had for network optimization and process efficiency, evaluate whether they met those goals, and discuss lessons learned throughout the design process.

Attendees will learn:

  • How to overcome the most common barriers to designing provider networks for new markets
  • Which methods and metrics are best to evaluate and optimize performance
  • Ways to model exploratory provider networks and compare them on the fly
