America’s Health Insurance Plans’ (AHIP) Health Insurance: State-to-State describes the important role of health insurance plans across all fifty states and the District of Columbia. This report catalogues specific contributions of health insurance plans to each state’s economy including:

  • Access to health insurance coverage
  • Number of direct and indirect jobs generated
  • Tax revenues paid

Data for this report were compiled from various sources (please see report for a detailed list) and represent the most recent and complete information available. Due to the lack of synchrony in the organizations’ reporting cycles, some data are less recent than others and were collected prior to implementation of the Affordable Care Act (e.g., Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Medicaid Managed Care enrollment data). This report underscores the financial protections afforded to millions of Americas through health insurance and the additional role the health insurance industry plays in growing state economies. Individual states are listed below. Click the PDF button for the entire report.
