The Innovation Lab

Inaugural Partners of the AHIP Innovation Lab

The Environment

Health plans are seeking new ways to organize and create innovative solutions that will address their most complex challenges. They are forming innovative collaborations with other key stakeholders in health care – the payer, provider, consumer, and the Bio/MedTech and pharmaceutical industries. They are bringing these innovative collaborations inside their current organizations and also looking outside their structures.

The AHIP Innovation Lab is an “action hub” where members of your organization can immerse themselves in all aspects of a particular challenge. For example, you might bring a team to the Lab to find and test alternative methods of creating pricing calculators for out-of-network customers. Or, you might want to develop new tools to make outcomes-centered care even more accessible to your customers. The Lab is an environment of creativity where your team has the tools and focused time to evaluate specific challenges and test viable solutions with cutting-edge partners.

In addition to key members of your organization, AHIP will help you round out your team with a Solutions Working Group that includes peer-level health care professionals, thought leaders, and subject matter experts. This 360-degree process is collaborative and designed to deliver actionable, outcomes-driven solutions for your plan. Key areas of focus include:

  • Chronic care management, coordination, and adherence
  • Consumer shared decision-making and health literacy
  • Primary care case management and ACO infrastructure
  • Health information exchange, population health, and big data
  • Provider decision support, outcomes-based payments, and CME
  • Brand recognition and customer loyalty
  • Quality and cost transparency
  • Creating efficiency and rewarding effectiveness
  • Detecting fraud and abuse
  • Telemedicine, customer-focused call centers, and linking patients with clinicians across the country
  • New strategies for aging in place and end-of-life planning

The Facility

Innovation Lab 1

Located in the booming technology sector of Chicago’s West Loop, the AHIP Innovation Lab is fully equipped with a state-of-the-art digital media studio, technology enabled resources, secure servers, fiber connectivity, satellite capabilities for video collaboration, and plenty of working space that ensures the necessary team environment. This space was built for you, our members, as a destination where you can roll up your sleeves and work on the specific challenges you will face in the coming months and years.

The Solution Provider Support

A limited number of “best-in-class” solution providers will be invited to shape and support the mission of the AHIP Innovation Lab in a one-of-a-kind immersive experience (non-commercial setting with no company product pitches or demonstrations). Side-by-side with AHIP member organizations, solution providers will contribute thought leadership and help solve the health plan’s specific stated need(s). This peer-to-peer collaboration will foster long-term business relationships and position the solution provider as an expert in their field.
