Mental Health To Medicaid: Here Is The Latest Health Care-Related Legislation

Congress picked up where it left off prior to the holiday recess, introducing several pieces of legislation relating to health care in the House and Senate.

Senate:

S. 2438, Sherrod Brown, to amend titles XI and XIX of the Social Security Act to establish a comprehensive and nationwide system to evaluate the quality of care provided to beneficiaries of Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program and to provide incentives for voluntary quality improvement

S. 2443, Tammy Baldwin, to support the establishment of a Standards Coordinating Body in Regenerative Medicine and Advanced Therapies

House:

H.R. 4315, Sheila Jackson Lee, to authorize funding to increase access to mental health care treatment to reduce gun violence

H.R. 4349, Paul Tonko, to require the Secretary of Health and Human Services to establish an institution for mental diseases bed registry program

H.R. 4350, Justin Amash, to repeal the Cybersecurity Act of 2015

H.R. 4362, Todd Rokita, to amend the Social Security Act to replace the Medicaid program and the Children’s Health Insurance program with a block grant to the states, and for other purposes

H.R. 4367, Joseph Pitts, to amend title XIX of the Social Security Act to end the increased Federal funding for Medicaid expansion with respect to inmates

H.R. 4368, Joseph Pitts, to amend title XIX of the Social Security Act to clarify the treatment of lottery winnings and other lump sum income for purposes of income eligibility under the Medicaid program, and for other purposes

H.R. 4374, Janice Schakowsky, to amend the Public Health Service Act to improve mental and behavioral health services on college and university campuses

H.R. 4378, Matt Cartwright, to amend the Public Health Service Act to provide grants for treatment of heroin, opioids, cocaine, methamphetamine, 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphet-amine (ecstasy), and phency-clidine (PCP) abuse, and for other purposes

H.R. 4388, David Loebsack, to amend the Public Health Service Act to authorize a primary and behavioral health care integration grant program
