Medicaid is the largest federal health program in the country, serving more than 70 million individuals. Next month, policymakers, administration officials, health plan leaders, and industry thought leaders will gather at AHIP’s National Conference on Medicaid (Oct. 26-27 in Washington, D.C.) to discuss the program’s successes, challenges, and regulatory changes. Here are a few highlights:
- Kicking off the conference, an opening keynote from Director of CMS’ Center for Medicaid and CHIP Services Victoria Wachino will examine Medicaid’s growing role in our health care system.
- This spring, CMS released the first major update to Medicaid managed care regulations in 15 years, the long-awaited Medicaid managed care final rule (“mega-reg”). Director of the CMS Division of Managed Care Plans James Golden, Ph.D., will share the agency’s perspective. Additional sessions cover the mega-reg’s impact on health plan operations and a roundtable discussion with state Medicaid leaders sharing their perspectives on changes at the state level.
- Medicaid health plans continue to play a crucial role in the Medicaid program, providing comprehensive benefits to populations with complex health needs. L.A. Care Health Plan CEO John Baackes will explain how managed care plans partner with states in improving Medicaid beneficiary health and well-being, and AmeriHealth Caritas Chairman; CEO Paul A. Tufano will address enhancing Medicaid for future generations; and Centene Corp.s’ Chairman, President and CEO Michael F. Neidorff will provide context for increasing acceptance of Medicaid managed care.
