Every American deserves affordable access to high-quality health care. That is why Medicaid managed care plans are doing their part to help keep people safe from COVID 19. AHIP and Medicaid managed care plans are working directly with the CDC and health experts across the nation to share information, mitigate health risks to Americans, and keep Americans informed.
States are increasingly relying on Medicaid health plans to promote high-quality, coordinated care for their growing Medicaid populations. These plans provide a variety of services to meet the unique needs of a diverse set of beneficiaries, ranging from older adults and foster children to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Managed care programs coordinate care for people with multiple chronic conditions; outreach and education initiatives to promote prevention and healthy living; and efforts to facilitate beneficiaries’ access to non-medical support, such as social services or transportation.
AHIP’s member organizations are developing programs to help their members access the physical and behavioral health services they need. Many programs are built on collaborations with providers, engagement with community–based organizations, or partnership with local and state agencies. These programs all have the goal of reducing social barriers to help members achieve their best health outcomes.
More than 73 million Americans are covered by Medicaid, making it the nation’s essential safety net, and two-thirds of those enrollees are served by Medicaid managed care plans. Medicaid managed care plans are continuously introducing innovative solutions to provide Americans with the high-quality, cost-effective health care they need and deserve, never more so than during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. From improving health equity, to supporting vulnerable communities, to boosting access to care, Medicaid managed care is committed to enriching the lives of Americans and building a stronger future.
Medicaid helps parents, children, veterans and people with disabilities to stay healthy and remain in their community. Hear directly from beneficiaries about how Medicaid has had a positive impact on their lives.
