Correcting the Record: Medicare Advantage Delivers Affordable, High-Quality Health Coverage to More Than 30 Million Americans

Every American deserves affordable coverage and access to high-quality care. Today, more than 30 million of America’s seniors and people with disabilities choose Medicare Advantage (MA) because it delivers lower costs, more choices, and better care to members than original Medicare.

A recent Kaiser Health News (KHN) article summarizing cursory data from more than 10 years ago for MA plan audits is misleading. First, CMS has determined that MA has significantly lower net payment error rates than original Medicare. This comparison is important to put CMS audit findings in context. In addition, the appeal process for most claims has not yet occurred, and MA plans may never have a chance at fair appeals given the significant passage of time.

Medicare Advantage is a prime example of the government and free market working together to deliver high-quality health care. Health insurance providers will continue to work with the Administration and Congress to strengthen and improve MA for the more than 30 million Americans who depend on it for their health and financial well-being.
