David K. Vawdrey, PhD

David K. Vawdrey, Ph.D. is Chief Data Informatics Officer at Geisinger. He is responsible for implementing transformational technologies and leveraging Geisinger’s advanced data and informatics infrastructure to create value for patients, clinicians, researchers, and members across 10 hospital campuses, a 550,000-member health plan, and the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine.

Prior to joining Geisinger, Dr. Vawdrey was the founding director of New York-Presbyterian Hospital’s Value Institute and Associate Professor at Columbia University’s Department of Biomedical Informatics. He’s an elected Fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics, and his research in areas such as clinical decision support, quality & safety, and patient engagement has resulted in over 100 peer-reviewed publications.

Dr. Vawdrey studied computer engineering and computer science at Brigham Young University and completed his Ph.D. in biomedical informatics at the University of Utah.
