Dennis Matheis
President and CEO, Sentara Healthcare
Dennis Matheis is the President of Optima Health and a Executive Vice President of Sentara Healthcare. Optima Health Plan (the health plan division of Sentara Healthcare) serves 500,000 members and consists of over 25,000 physicians and 114 hospitals.
Previous Experience
Dennis has spent nearly 30 years in various senior leadership roles in health insurance and healthcare. Most recently he served as President of Anthem’s BCBS Central Region encompassing 6 states and $12 billion in annual revenue. Prior leadership roles have included large physician practices and integrated delivery systems.
Education
- He earned his B.S. in Accounting from the University of Kentucky and was a practicing Certified Public Accountant.
