Jim Dolstad, FCA, ASA, MAAA

Jim Dolstad is a Vice President in Optum’s Payer Actuarial Consulting team. He has more than 30 years of industry experience working with payers, providers, and employers.
Most recently, he has consulted with clients address their needs around total cost reduction, population health management, program evaluation, performance management, social determinants of health, predictive modeling and risk adjustment. Prior to joining Optum, Jim was the Chief Actuary for a global operations management and analytics company. He also has served as Chief Actuarial Officer for a population health management company. These two roles enabled him to develop actionable analytics for internal and external customers based on a value chain approach designed to more clearly illustrate cause and effect. Jim began his career providing actuarial and employee benefit consulting for nearly 20 years where he ultimately led a regional practice for a national consulting firm.
Jim is a Fellow of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries, Associate of the Society of Actuaries and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. He graduated from the University of Puget Sound with Bachelors of Science degrees in Mathematics and Economics. In addition, he is a frequent public speaker at industry events and actively participates in both professional organizations.
