Tim Storey

CEO, National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL)

Tim Storey is the Director of State Services for the National Conference of State Legislatures in Denver, Colorado. The State Services Division at NCSL includes several core programs: fiscal research, the center for legislative strengthening, institutional studies, leaders’ services, legislative training and strategic initiatives. He has spent the past 29 years working for and studying legislatures--specializing in the areas of elections, redistricting, legislative organization and leadership.

During his tenure at NCSL, he has participated in, and led more than two dozen, in-depth studies of legislative operations and structure in over half of the U.S. state legislatures. Plus, he has consulted with, and conducting training for, parliaments in Algeria, Azerbaijan, Egypt, Ghana, Iraq, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, and South Africa. Tim staffed NCSL's Redistricting and Elections Committee for over two decades authoring numerous articles and papers on the topics of redistricting and elections while serving as a frequently cited source by the N.Y. Times, Wall Street Journal, AP and other major media outlets. For two decades, he led NCSL's effort, StateVote, to collect and analyze state election results. Born and raised in western North Carolina, Tim attended Mars Hill College and received his MA from the University of Colorado. Tim lives in Wheat Ridge, Colorado with his terrific wife Amy, and their three pretty good kids: Caroline, Will and Erin.
