Mary Hsieh is the CEO of Mass Advantage, a health plan UMass Memorial Health as a founding investor. Mass Advantage believes that members are the reason why we are here and Mary leads the company in its relentless focus to make the lives of its members better and easier.
Prior to launching Mass Advantage, Mary was the Managing Director of the Medicare Practice at Health Management Associates (HMA), a national consulting firm known for its expertise and thought leadership in state and federally funded programs, including Medicare, dual eligible integration and Medicaid. She incubated and grew HMA’s Medicare Practice by catapulting their brand, reputation, and services into this $650 billion market. Mary led the development of innovations that solved the most complex problems faced by the U.S. health industry and policy makers, ultimately making health care simpler and more impactful to consumers.
Mary also served in various leadership roles at Kaiser Permanente, including Market Strategy Leader in the Georgia region where she was responsible for Medicare, Medicaid and Individual & Family business lines. Under her leadership, Kaiser Permanente became the first plan in the market to achieve a 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid services, the highest recognition awarded to plans demonstrating industry-leading performance on quality and customer satisfaction. Mary also started Kaiser’s Medicaid business line in Georgia, enabling 25,000 children in the Medicaid program to access Kaiser’s high quality delivery system.
Mary draws her inspiration from her family’s caregiving journey with her father, Peter, who struggled with Alzheimer’s during the latter part of his life. Her father’s legacy fuels her commitment to make healthcare person-centered, dignified, and compassionate. She holds a PharmD from the University of California, San Francisco, an MPH from UC Berkeley and a bachelor’s degree from UC Davis.
