Vice President, Research, The Center for Policy and Research,
America’s Health Insurance Plans

Craig is currently the Vice President of Research for the health insurance industry trade association, America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP).  His research, since joining AHIP’s Center for Policy and Research in 2014, is focused mainly on the economic impacts of prescription medications on the healthcare system.  He has extensive experience in conducting economic modeling studies, insurance claims database analyses; as well as, survey-based research projects across a variety of healthcare topics.

Craig began his career in 1996 as a Regulatory Affairs Associate for British Biotech.  In 1999, he joined MedImmune, as a Project Manager where he coordinated the research and development efforts of multiple cross-disciplinary teams tasked with developing monoclonal antibodies in the autoimmune and oncology areas.  In 2003, he joined Sanofi’s research and development organization as a Project Director and led multiple, international, cross-disciplinary teams in developing drugs and biologics in the oncology therapeutic area.  Dr. Burns has acquired considerable experience and expertise in all aspects of drug development and approval in Europe, the United States, and Japan.

Craig’s undergraduate degree in Chemistry was awarded by The University of Tulsa; he holds a Master of Science degree in Toxicology from Oklahoma State University; and a PhD in Health Economics and Health Services Research from The University of Oklahoma’s College of Pharmacy.
