Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder,
American Specialty Health

George DeVries co-founded American Specialty Health (ASH) in 1987 with the goal to develop specialty health care programs and integrate them into traditional medical plans offered by Fortune 500 employers, insurance companies, and health plans.

His first product launch was a chiropractic network program for health plans in California.  After receiving the first license as a specialty health plan for chiropractic in California, George succeeded in contracting with 10+ California health plans covering over 6 million Californians.  Shortly thereafter, he created an acupuncture provider network program and received the first specialty health plan license for acupuncture in California, which now cover millions of Californians through contracts with 10+ California health plans.

Based upon the success in California, he expanded the organization nationally to all 50 states and added Physical Therapists, Podiatrists, Dietitians, Nutritionists and other provider groups. Today ASH has a national network of nearly 60,000 practitioners who currently provide health services to more than 33.6 million Americans through 100+ health plan clients.

Through the years, as a recognized innovator in provider network management systems, George was named to the White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Policy and earned recognition as the Ernst & Young National and Regional Entrepreneur of the Year for Health Sciences. He also received the national AHIP Innovators Award, the Benefits and Compensation Solutions Superstars Award, and the San Diego Business Journal’s Most Admired CEO and Lifetime Achievement Award for Wellness.

Today ASH is one of the nation’s largest health services organizations, providing a broad range of musculoskeletal provider networks, fitness and exercise programs, and health management solutions for more than 43 million covered Americans.
