Julia has 24 years of experience, with 17 years as a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries serving in leadership roles. Julia joined Wakely Consulting Group, LLC as a Principal in April 2008 and now serves as President of the company.
Julia’s area of expertise is in Medicare Advantage, preparing and certifying Medicare Advantage and Part D bids since 2000. However, she enjoys the variety of work that comes with serving regional payer clients. Serving as a staff actuary for a variety of clients during her consulting career has provided her with a deep understanding of all facets of the health care delivery system. Her work includes analyzing claims experience, projecting medical and pharmacy expenses, preparing premium rate certifications and statements of actuarial opinions for financial statements, and analyzing provider contracts, Her experience allows her to strategize on member behavior in reaction to benefits and cost-sharing changes, and enables her to counsel her clients regarding niches and opportunities in the changing market.
Julia has been an active member of the American Academy of Actuaries serving on subcommittee work groups. In 2013, she was elected by her peers to serve a three year term on the Health Section Committee of the Society of Actuaries (SOA), in which she played a key role in Medicare Advantage education for the SOA. She also regularly speaks at webinars, seminars and SOA meetings.
Prior to Wakely, Julia was a Managing Principal and Medicare Actuarial Practice Leader at Reden & Anders (now OptumInsight) where she served in a consulting capacity for eight years. Julia has an undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln and a Masters of Science degree in Mathematics from Colorado University in Boulder.
