LouAnne Giangreco, MD is the Chief Medical Officer of Health Care Improvement at Excellus BlueCross BlueShield. She has clinical oversight of the development and implementation of the plan wide quality programs. She is also the medical director for case and disease management as well as the clinical variations program to reduce unwarranted practice variation.
LouAnne graduated from the Albany Medical College and continued her training at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse where she completed an Emergency Medicine residency in 2005. She worked clinically in Emergency Departments throughout Central New York. In addition, she served in leadership roles within a number of these facilities, including as Chief Quality Officer and Assistant Medical Director of the Emergency Department. In her last position, she served a Chief Medical Officer for a company providing urgent care, occupational medicine and telemedicine services throughout Upstate New York. She joined the health plan in February of 2018.
Dr. Giangreco serves on the Board of Directors for the Onondaga County Medical Society and the Tompkins County Medical Society. She is the Secretary for the Fifth District of Medical Society of the State of New York. She is a fellow of the American College of Emergency Medicine and is board-certified in Emergency Medicine. She is a member of the American Association for Physician Leadership and the Northeast Regional Urgent Care Association. She volunteers as a member of the New York State Antimicrobial Resistance Task Force.
