Michael Neidorff serves on the board of directors at America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), where he represents the healthcare community and advocates for expanded access to affordable health insurance for all Americans.
A seasoned healthcare executive, Mr. Neidorff has spent many decades working to transform the industry through thoughtful leadership and action. In 1985, he founded the Physicians Health Plan of Greater St. Louis, one of UnitedHealth Group’s most profitable subsidiaries in the U.S. He also served in senior executive positions at Coventry Health Care, Inc. and Miles Laboratories/Bayer AG in the early 1990s.
Mr. Neidorff became president and chief executive officer of Centene Corporation in 1996. He was named chairman in 2004. Since then, Mr. Neidorff has worked diligently to support localized healthcare, technological innovation, and low-cost coverage solutions — developing programs that provide holistic care to Centene’s customers. Under his direction, Centene has grown from a single-state healthcare plan to a Fortune 50 enterprise offering Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial managed care plans to millions of Americans each year. In addition to growing Centene into the #1 U.S. insurer in the Health Insurance Marketplace, Mr. Neidorff’s strategic acquisitions and partnerships have allowed the company to expand into behavioral healthcare, digital software solutions, pharmacy management, telehealth, and other specialty services. Because of his savvy business acumen, Mr. Neidorff was named one of the “100 Most Influential People in Healthcare” by Modern Healthcare magazine in 2018, 2019 and 2020.
Mr. Neidorff’s steady leadership continues to make a lasting impact through his current role at Centene and beyond. In 2015, he was honored by the Junior Achievement of Greater St. Louis for his philanthropic work in the St. Louis community. He is a board member of the National Urban League and served as chairman from 2014-2019. Mr. Neidorff is a member of the World Economic Forum and a trustee of Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, his alma mater. The Michael and Noémi Neidorff Art Gallery at Trinity University was named in honor of him and his wife, Noémi. Mr. Neidorff also serves as treasurer of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and is a lifelong supporter of the arts.
