President and Chief Executive Officer,
Pat Wang is the CEO of Healthfirst, a 1.2 million-member, not-for-profit HMO serving downstate New York. She has led the company since 2008 and was instrumental in its creation in 1993 as a provider-sponsored health plan in which providers assume financial risk for the costs and outcomes of care for a population. Before joining Healthfirst, she clerked for the Hon. Whitman Knapp in the Southern District of New York, and then represented health care providers serving financially distressed urban communities in private law practice. She was Senior Vice President at the Greater New York Hospital Association for 17 years where she was responsible for policy development and advocacy regarding uncompensated care, graduate medical education, managed care, healthcare finance, and related issues. Since joining Healthfirst as CEO, revenue has more than quadrupled, to $8 billion, and its Medicaid plan is ranked at the top for quality in the State. Healthfirst’s 130,000-member Medicare Advantage plan, which serves a similarly low income population, is a 4-Star plan for the second year in a row. Pat is a graduate of Princeton University and NYU School of Law, cum laude, has lived in China, and is a longtime resident of New York City.
