Former National Medical Director, Medicare,
Prominent physician-healthcare leader, managed care strategist and distinguished scholar, Randall S. Krakauer, M.D., MBA, has held senior level positions at the nation’s foremost health plans, managed care organizations and medical institutions, including more than a decade of service at Aetna and as medical director at Cigna.
During his tenure at Aetna, Dr. Krakauer held key senior-level positions, as National Medical Director, Medicare, Aetna Health Plans, Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, Aetna Medicare, and Vice President and Director of Medical Strategy, Aetna. He was responsible for the development and implementation of new strategies to impact members at the intersection of quality and cost, including projects related to long-term product and engagement for chronic illness. He took clinical lead in management of advanced illness, developed new programs in pharmacy collaboration and enhanced clinical engagement.
As a strategist, he administered medical management for Medicare and compassionate care, developed and supervised new products, and directed programs for provider collaboration and management of chronic illness and risk factors. Early on, he supervised healthcare delivery by regional medical management teams, developed nationwide implementation of complex geriatric case management programs, and established care management and care coordination programs in disease management and end-of-life.
During his years at Cigna, Dr. Krakauer was vice president and regional medical director for Medicare, CIGNA Tristate, and responsible for Medicare Medical Management for New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
He earned an M.D. from Albany Medical College, Albany, New York, holds an MBA from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey, and a B.S. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York.
