Dr. Omer is a practicing emergency medicine physician, assistant professor and full-time faculty member at the University of Southern California, working clinically at LA County Medical Center, a tertiary care level-one trauma center–one of the busiest emergency departments in the country. It is located adjacent to one of the epicenters of the opioid epidemic the US.
His recent focus has been on combating opioid-related deaths through innovative technology. In collaboration with PwrdBy–a Santa Monica based tech startup–he recently won the ‘FDA App Competition’ in developing a crowd-sourced app solution that is intended to prevent opioid-related deaths by improving immediate access to naloxone in cases of opioid overdoses.
