William Brewster, MD, FACP, CHIE is Vice President of the New Hampshire market for Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, a not-for-profit health services company.  Harvard Pilgrim and its family of companies provide health benefit plans, programs and services to more than 3 million members in New England and beyond. William is part an organization of over 1,600 employees who are committed to improving the health and well-being of its members and the community.

William joined Harvard Pilgrim in 2012 as Medical Director and then in 2014 as Chief Medical Officer for Benevera Health, a joint venture involving Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, Dartmouth-Hitchcock, Elliot Health System, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Frisbie Memorial Hospital, formed to improve the quality of health care in New Hampshire while reducing costs.  In addition, he served as Harvard Pilgrim’s Utilization Management Medical Director, overseeing the evaluation of medical necessity, appropriateness, and efficiency of the use of health care services.

A board-certified internist who has practiced in New Hampshire for over thirty years, William received his undergraduate degree from the University of Vermont in 1977 and his medical degree from George Washington University in 1981. He completed his residency at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC.

Prior to joining Harvard Pilgrim, William held several leadership positions in the health care industry including serving as Medical Director for Seacoast Redicare, Medical Director for the IPA Physicians Association of Rochester and Director of the IPA’s PHO Health Advantage New Hampshire.

William currently serves on the board of directors for Frisbie Memorial Hospital and Memorial Hospital, the Citizens Health Initiative, the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, the Business and Industry Association and the Foundation for Healthy Communities.

A New Hampshire native, William sees patients on a per diem basis at Seacoast Redcare, a for-profit subsidiary of Frisbie Hospital that provides occupational medicine and walk-in care in Somersworth.
