The Evolution of Health Care: Removing Cost as a Barrier

As health insurance providers, we’re well aware of the cost of care and how that impacts our members. “Cost can become a barrier,” says Dr. Vindell Washington of Verily Life Sciences (following his position as Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana‘s chief medical officer).
In fact, research from the Kaiser Family Foundation found that nearly 10% of people surveyed said cost was a reason they chose to delay or go without care. There is an opportunity to leverage new technologies – such as home monitoring and virtual care – to evolve how primary care is delivered and remove barriers to care.
