About This Webinar

The No Surprises Act (NSA) has numerous requirements for health insurance providers to succeed in its goal of ending surprise billing. Notably, health insurers must now update and verify provider directories regularly. Furthermore, inaccurate provider directory information now directly affects a health insurer’s bottom line due to penalties and limits on out-of-network costs for consumers. In a 2018 audit of Medicare Advantage plans, half of all provider directory entries had at least one inaccuracy. Since implementation of the NSA began in January of 2022, the state of provider directory accuracy is unknown. Furthermore, it is unclear how health insurers can successfully improve provider directory accuracy.

This webinar will describe the importance of provider directory accuracy in context of the No Surprises Act (NSA). We will first lay out the business case for provider directory accuracy and the financial implications of poor data quality in the context of the NSA. We will then present new research regarding the state of provider directories across the health insurance market nationwide nine months into NSA implementation. Finally, we will provide concrete suggestions on improving provider directory quality with specific examples of successes at large national health insurers.
