About This Webinar

The No Surprises Act (NSA) has numerous requirements for health insurance providers in order to succeed in its goal of ending surprise billing. Notably, health insurance providers must now update and verify provider directories regularly. Furthermore, inaccurate provider directory information directly now affects a health insurance provider’s bottom line due to penalties and limits on out-of-network costs for consumers. In a 2018 audit of Medicare Advantage plans, half of all provider directory entries had at least one inaccuracy. Since implementation of the NSA began in January of 2022, the current state of provider directory accuracy is unknown. Furthermore, it is unclear how health insurance providers can successfully improve provider directory accuracy.

This webinar will describe the importance of provider directory accuracy in context of the No Surprises Act (NSA). We will first lay out the business case for provider directory accuracy and the financial implications of poor data quality in the context of the NSA. We will then present new research regarding the state of provider directories across the health insurance provider market nationwide nine months into NSA implementation. Finally, we will provide concrete suggestions on improving provider directory quality with specific examples of successes at large national health insurance providers.
