About This Webinar

The entire health care industry is currently struggling with the costs and management of lab testing. Currently, approximately thirteen billion clinical laboratory tests are performed every year, making lab testing the most utilized medical benefit. This volume results in health insurance providers spending tens of billions of dollars annually on routine lab and complex genetic tests. Further aggravating this is the fact that 30% of lab tests are unnecessary. Ordering tests that are not clinically indicated can lead to safety issues for members due to unnecessary sample collection, increased chances for false-positive results and potentially unnecessary interventions. The absence of industry standards and clinical efficacy data is exacerbating problems of inappropriate utilization and misinterpretation of tests, which often leads to inappropriate downstream interventions.

In this session, attendees will learn how they can better manage the lab benefit, realizing significant cost savings and improving care quality, by aligning routine and genetic lab testing with clinical guidelines.

Attendees Will Learn About

  • Looking beyond network discounts to manage routine lab utilization
  • Managing genetic lab testing with other methods besides prior authorization
  • Understanding how automated, evidence-based policy enforcement can enhance laboratory benefit management
