The Chief of Staff supports our President & CEO in successfully implementing the organization’s priorities and strategic and tactical plans, facilitating executive management team meetings and advancing priorities, assisting with Board meetings and CEO engagement the Board and member companies, leading projects that fall outside specific functional roles, and supporting CEO communications and leadership activities. This role supports the CEO in advancing the goals and needs of the Board and member organizations and engaging and communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders. The Chief of Staff also facilitates cross-functional integration across the organization, development of best-in-class systems and processes, identification of gaps in resources and capabilities, and recommendations to improve and optimize the association’s operations.
Under the supervision of the Senior Vice President, the Vice President of Federal Affairs (DEM) participates in government relations efforts on all federal affairs activities, with emphasis on legislative activities in support of AHIP’s advocacy efforts. This position participates in AHIP’s highly matrixed public affairs efforts including tracking, analyzing, and lobbying of Congressional activities and related issues, and cross-functional agenda setting.
At the direction of the Senior Vice President for Federal Programs, this position provides policy and advocacy expertise on state and federal aspects of the Medicaid and CHIP programs in support of America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) operating departments and member organizations. Responsibilities include playing a leading role in the development of AHIP’s Medicaid policy agenda; leading coordination between Federal and State advocacy efforts; closely monitoring and analyzing Federal legislative initiatives, health policy developments, and State and Federal agency policies; assisting in the preparation of concise analyses of key issues; maintaining close contact with our Medicaid health plan members and other Medicaid-focused groups; and pursuing other duties in support of AHIP’s advocacy efforts.
