AHIP Appoints Two New Executive Leaders in Its Continued Mission to Guide Greater Health

Sohini Gupta joins to lead Government Affairs & Innovations, Robert Traynham joins to lead Public Affairs & Strategic Initiatives

Washington, D.C. – April 5, 2023 – AHIP has added two new members to its executive leadership team as the association continues its work to guide greater health, improving health care affordability, access, quality, and value for every American. Sohini Gupta has been named Executive Vice President, Government Affairs & Innovations, leading AHIP’s federal and state lobbying and advocacy. Robert Traynham has been named Executive Vice President, Public Affairs & Strategic Initiatives, leading AHIP’s communications, public affairs, and engagement. Both appointments are effective immediately.

As Executive Vice President, Government Affairs & Innovations, Sohini Gupta leads AHIP’s advocacy teams in Washington, D.C., and in all 50 states, engaging with legislators and policymakers on matters impacting coverage, care, and patient outcomes. Gupta joins AHIP from Global Medical Response, where she led government affairs for the nation’s largest ground and air emergency response company. Her 25 years of experience includes government affairs leadership roles at UnitedHealth Group; WellCare, which was acquired by Centene; the American Hospital Association; and Mehlman Castagnetti Rosen & Thomas. Gupta earned her undergraduate degree from Butler University and a J.D. from Indiana University.

As Executive Vice President, Public Affairs & Strategic Initiatives, Robert Traynham leads AHIP’s communications, coalitions, campaigns, and engagement on the most essential priorities of the association’s members. Traynham joins AHIP from Meta, where he led public affairs for the social media leader. He has also served as a communications and public affairs leader at the Bipartisan Policy Center, Wal-Mart and at Comcast, and he has been a prominent political analyst on media outlets such as CNN and MSNBC. Traynham is also a Professor and Fellow at Georgetown University. Traynham earned his undergraduate degree from Cheyney University, a master’s degree in political communications from George Mason University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland.
