WASHINGTON, D.C. – (April 13, 2023) – Every American deserves access to high-quality affordable coverage and health care. Today, AHIP released the latest version of its comprehensive, biennial report, Health Coverage: State-to-State 2023, which analyzes health coverage and health insurance provider industry employment for all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
“As health insurance providers, we are driven by our commitment to keep people healthy,” said Matt Eyles, President and CEO of AHIP. “That starts with delivering high-quality, affordable coverage to the people and communities we serve.”
The report provides detailed information for each state on a range of categories, including:
- Number of lives covered by market (Employer, Individual, Medicaid managed care, Medicare Advantage).
- Total number of jobs supported directly and indirectly.
- Average wages and state taxes contributed.
- Individual marketplace coverage details.
“Good financial health is also important,” Eyles continued. “That’s why health insurance providers are proud to provide and support nearly two million good-paying jobs across the nation.”
According to the latest numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau, over 91% of Americans had health insurance for all or part of 2020. Recent data from AHIP’s Coverage@Work campaign shows that 54% of the total U.S. population receives health insurance coverage through an employer.
