WASHINGTON, D.C. – (January 25, 2023) – AHIP President and CEO Matt Eyles released this statement following today’s announcement that 16.3 million people have selected an Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplace health plan during the 2023 Marketplace Open Enrollment Period (OEP).
“Every American deserves affordable, comprehensive coverage – regardless of their income, health status, or preexisting conditions. Health insurance coverage is critical to protecting Americans’ health and financial well-being. The historic enrollment numbers today reflect the successful partnership of HHS, health insurance providers, stakeholders, and community partners to educate and enroll more Americans in Exchange coverage than ever before.
“Hardworking American families remain highly focused on affordability, especially in health care. We will continue to advocate for consumers and support solutions to promote a stable, competitive marketplace that delivers high quality coverage and care at lower cost.
“Health insurance providers will continue to work with Congress and the Administration to improve what’s working in the individual market to deliver high value, effective coverage, and better health outcomes for everyone.”
Since the November 1 start of the 2023 OEP, over 16 million people have signed up for affordable health coverage. This historic number is a 13% increase over last year and includes 3.6 million people who are new to the Marketplace, a 21% increase when compared to 2022’s OEP.
