Alya Sulaiman

Alya Sulaiman helps clients navigate complex regulatory, privacy and transactional matters, with a focus on artificial intelligence, machine learning and data strategy in digital health. Alya has substantial experience with product counseling and provides guidance during the conception, development, launch and support of new digital health products and services.

She regularly advises organizations on developing artificial intelligence governance and compliance frameworks, including guiding artificial intelligence risk assessments and mitigation plans, vendor oversight and training of key stakeholders.

Alya counsels US and global companies on legal and business frameworks for developing and deploying innovative technologies, including predictive analytics, decision support algorithms, electronic health records, interoperability tools, health data platforms and digital therapeutics. As a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US), Alya draws on her extensive privacy and security law knowledge to help clients comply with regulatory obligations while achieving strategic business objectives and maintaining public trust.

Prior to joining McDermott, Alya worked at the intersection of healthcare and technology as corporate counsel and the director of health policy and regulatory affairs for a leading global healthcare software company. She has valuable in-house experience working with software engineering teams, product managers, external affairs, sales and compliance. Earlier in her career, she lead legal and privacy functions at a healthcare data organization, a multispecialty healthcare provider and an innovative software analytics company.
