M. Catharine Moffitt, MD, FAAP, CHIE
Senior Vice President & Chief Medical Officer, Aetna
Dr. Cathy Moffitt serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Aetna at CVS Health. She and her team lead the integration and delivery of clinical and population health solutions in support of our Aetna members, customers and provider partners. Dr. Moffitt is passionate about health and grateful to work for a health care innovation company whose purpose is to “bring our heart to every moment of health.”
Prior to her current role, Dr. Moffitt was the Chief Medical Officer for Aetna’s Commercial and Individual businesses, overseeing a team of physicians focused on utilization management and nurses supporting member care and case management. Dr. Moffitt was also the Senior Medical Director for Aetna of Florida with oversight of all medical management responsibilities for Aetna’s southeast territory including Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina, North, Carolina, Tennessee and Arkansas. Dr. Moffitt was also previously responsible for the National Accounts Care Management Solutions Team (NACMST).
Dr. Moffitt served as the Chief of Hospital Pediatrics at Broward Health from 1997 to 2005. She began her career in managed health as a Medical Director for Vista Health Plan, a legacy company of Coventry and then Aetna. Dr. Moffitt also served as the health plans, Executive Lead of State Programs, overseeing the Medicaid, CHIP and long-term care programs, as well as Aetna Medical Director, with a special focus on alignment of clinical and administrative management.
Dr. Moffitt is a native Floridian raised in Hollywood, Florida. She completed her residency training in general pediatrics and fellowship training in pediatric infectious diseases at Duke University Medical Center. She received her MD from the University of South Florida, College of Medicine and her BS from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She completed AHIP’s Executive Leadership Program for Medical Directors and is a member of the Northeast Business Group on Health and a Certified Health Insurance Executive (CHIE).
