Kate Berry
Senior Vice President, Clinical Innovations & Strategic Partnerships, AHIP
Kate Berry is Senior Vice President of Clinical Affairs and Strategic Partnerships with America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP). In this role, Ms. Berry oversees programs related to chronic disease prevention and management such as diabetes, asthma, and mental health. She works to highlight health insurers’ innovative clinical programs. Ms. Berry has more than 25 years of experience in healthcare.
Prior to joining AHIP, Ms. Berry was the Chief Executive Officer of National eHealth Collaborative (NeHC), a public-private partnership that worked closely with the Department of Health and Human Services(HHS) and many healthcare stakeholders to encourage widespread adoption of health information technology to improve patient-centeredness and drive greater value. Major initiatives Ms. Berry led while at NeHC included leveraging health information technology to improve patient engagement, profiling successes and challenges in health information exchange, and creating a widely attended web-based health information technology education program.
Previously, Ms. Berry was Senior Vice President of Surescripts, leading national and state programs to encourage adoption of electronic prescribing and health information exchange. While at Surescripts, Ms. Berry created the Center for Improving Medication Management and served as its Executive Director. The Center was founded by the American Academy of Family Physicians, Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, Medical Group Management Association, Humana, Intel, and Surescripts. The mission of the Center was to improve outcomes of medication management through collaboration among physician practices, pharmacists, payers/employers, and patients.
Ms. Berry had a career in healthcare management consulting and as a non-profit executive. As a consultant with McManis Associates, Ms. Berry conducted a wide range of strategic planning engagements with healthcare organizations to develop integrated health systems. At the American Red Cross, Ms. Berry worked directly for the President and CEO serving as her Chief of Staff and Executive Vice President of External Affairs.
Ms. Berry is a member of the Board of Governors at the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI). She holds a Master’s degree in public policy from Duke University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and English from Goucher College in Maryland.
