On March 1, 2019, AHIP submitted recommendations to Senate HELP Committee Chairman Lamar Alexander (R-TN), responding to his request for recommendations on steps that can be taken to provide relief to the American people from rising health care costs.

Our submission focuses on three areas where Chairman Alexander requested feedback: (1) lowering health care costs; (2) incentivizing care that improves the health and outcomes of patients; and (3) increasing the ability for patients to access information about their care to make informed health care decisions.

Overall, we offer more than 50 recommendations focused on lowering prescription drug prices, repealing the ACA health insurance tax and Cadillac tax, protecting consumers from surprise medical bills, reducing the number of people who are uninsured and underinsured, preventing anti-competitive provider consolidation, fighting health care fraud, promoting high-value networks, improving interoperability, aligning quality measures between public and private payers, and numerous other opportunities to promote affordability while preserving and expanding consumer choice.
