Background

America is aging – and that’s a good thing. Between 2011 and 2029, the 78.2 million people born as part of the baby boomer generation will turn 65. Medical advances mean they are living longer. By 2030, 1 in every 5 Americans will be a senior. By 2040, more than 14 million Americans will be 85 or older.

This creates unique challenges for how we think about health care and senior living. Our seniors have higher expectations for being able to stay healthy, and for being able to age in place in the homes and communities they love. If we are to successfully care for this generation, without overwhelming taxpayers with skyrocketing costs for care, we need to think differently about how we make coverage and care more affordable for seniors.
