Every American deserves affordable, comprehensive coverage that provides them access to safe and convenient care, now more than ever as the nation fights the COVID-19 crisis.

Health insurance providers have been on the front lines of that fight, taking decisive and proactive actions that include waiving cost-sharing for COVID-19 testing and treatment to expanding telehealth services.

As COVID-19 vaccines near approval, health insurance providers are ready to help ensure that all Americans can receive a vaccination, by following government guidelines for coverage, collaborating with state and local public health authorities and provider organizations to outreach to priority populations, and by leveraging our many communication channels to deliver timely and accurate information on where and how to be immunized to our members.

Health insurance providers cover vaccines recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) under most plans. When ACIP recommends a COVID-19 vaccine, it will be covered for free.

Health insurance providers have always played an important role in ensuring their members receive the vaccinations recommended for them, including conducting outreach and education programs to help people know what vaccines they need and how to get them.

This includes providing information to consumers and providers about how vaccine coverage works, serving as a trusted resource for patients and providers, and reporting adverse events associated with COVID-19 immunizations to the proper authorities.

COVID-19 vaccines will be available in the near future. Health insurance providers are committed to being part of the solution to help ensure that people receive vaccines as efficiently and effectively as possible.

Ensuring access to safe, effective COVID-19 vaccines is a public health imperative. Health insurance providers are committed to working with national, state, and local leaders to help promote access to a COVID-19 vaccine, and to partner with state and local public health authorities to identify individuals who should be placed at the front of the line to receive the vaccine.

Vaccines save lives, and will be essential in overcoming the COVID-19 crisis.
