National & State Coalition Building
,A successful advocacy campaign will likely consist of building coalitions. Alliances that pull together new messengers, specific data, and expertise from various resources will increase the likelihood of passing or defeating legislation. Utilizing the issue of dental loss ratio (DLR) as a case study, panelists will discuss and share their experiences on how coalition building provided a tipping point toward recent successes. Our speakers will discuss how we formed a broad industry dental coalition that includes national and state trade associations and learn how those coalitions were able to shape state DLR legislation. Additionally, panelists will learn how ballot measures may threaten traditional advocacy efforts in the future.

Cultivating Engagement by Business Allies
,Many issues addressed by state legislatures impact the affordability of health care coverage and the services delivered by health insurance providers. Government action that increases costs to health insurance providers often means increased costs for the employers that purchase coverage on behalf of their employees. In other words, health insurance providers’ and employers’ interests are often aligned. So how can we better motivate and engage employers and business organizations when these legislative debates take place? In this session, we’ll explore these questions and share examples of successful employer engagement at the state-level.
