Opening General Session: AHIP Executive Team Fireside Chat

    ,

This session will be a fireside chat, which will include a handful of questions aimed at providing the audience “parting advice” from AHIP’s President and CEO. This session will strengthen, encourage, and arm you after finishing incredibly intense legislative sessions all across the country. Kick off the event encouraged, strong, and equipped for 2024.

  • 9:00 am – 9:45 am,

    Tackling Hospital Costs

    ,

AHIP’s Healthier People Through Healthier Markets policy roadmap recommends advancing site neutral payment policies as a way to defend consumers against overpaying for the same services depending on the site of care. Learn about the legislation that can eliminate these price differences, where and how it’s already been enacted, and how ending these practices would help drive down health care costs.

  • 9:45 am – 10:45 am,

    National & State Coalition Building

    ,

A successful advocacy campaign will likely consist of building coalitions. Alliances that pull together new messengers, specific data, and expertise from various resources will increase the likelihood of passing or defeating legislation. Utilizing the issue of dental loss ratio (DLR) as a case study, panelists will discuss and share their experiences on how coalition building provided a tipping point toward recent successes. Our speakers will discuss how we formed a broad industry dental coalition that includes national and state trade associations and learn how those coalitions were able to shape state DLR legislation. Additionally, panelists will learn how ballot measures may threaten traditional advocacy efforts in the future.

    Artificial Intelligence and Data Privacy

    ,

Artificial intelligence (AI) is something we are seeing in all aspects of our lives, and health care delivery is no exception. As medical information is exchanged within the health care system, protecting an individual’s information becomes extremely important.

Join us as we review the federal and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) activity and explore how these developments will impact proposals discussed during the 2024 state legislative sessions.

  • 4:15 pm – 5:00 pm,

    Cultivating Engagement by Business Allies

    ,

Many issues addressed by state legislatures impact the affordability of health care coverage and the services delivered by health insurance providers. Government action that increases costs to health insurance providers often means increased costs for the employers that purchase coverage on behalf of their employees. In other words, health insurance providers’ and employers’ interests are often aligned. So how can we better motivate and engage employers and business organizations when these legislative debates take place? In this session, we’ll explore these questions and share examples of successful employer engagement at the state-level.

  • 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm,

    AHIP Committee Meeting

    ,

AHIP’s MedSupp Committee is meeting in person at the conclusion of the general sessions. AHIP staff and retained counsels are required to attend. State trade associations and AHIP members are welcome to join for this in-depth, educational conversation. The meeting will focus on reviewing recent state legislation and its impact on Medigap carriers, as well as a conversation about the value of supplemental health insurance products. We will also be discussing lessons learned and best practices when advocating on behalf of Medigap and supplemental products.
